Montgomery Loop
Hiking in Port Ludlow

Montgomery Loop is a basically flat route about 3/4 mile in length that passes through the area north of the Port Ludlow marina, on the water side of Oak Bay Road. It connects to the conference / Admiralty condo area, so that walkers can use this route to reach the Around-the-Bay trail.

Montgomery Loop isn't really a "trail" because over 90% of the route utilizes village roads. A short segment passes through the greenbelt at the end of Condon Lane and Libby court so that the loop can be achieved.

You can enter or exit this route at any point, depending on where your home or destination is. If you want to drive to walk this loop, park at the trail sign which is north of the old conference center (now the Grace Christian Center), near the utility road that is marked with the red identification sign "8481".

These directions assume you start at the southermost point of the Montgomery Loop.

Walk north on the short path that leads from the Grace Christian Center (the old conference center) to the Montgomery Lane cul-de-sac. Walk north along Montgomery Lane until you reach Libby Court. Be careful when you cross Pope Way. There is so little traffic that drivers aren't always paying attention.

Libby Court is basically just a cul-de-sac which is on the right as Montgomery Lane curves northeast towards Mount Baker and drops down a slight incline to become the street closest to the bluff. Turn right on Libby Court and walk to the end of the cul-de-sac. Look for the "hiker" sign which marks a narrow pathway through LMC greenbelt property. This path takes you to a more open grassy area which leads you to the north end of Condon Lane.

Follow Condon Lane back south, turn right on Pope Way. Walk a block up the slight incline (away from the water) to Montgomery Lane. Turn left (south) to complete the loop and return to the old conference center area.

Port Ludlow's trails are privately owned, operated, and maintained for the residents of Port Ludlow, their guests, and guests of the resort. Dogs must be on leash and owners should bring a bag to pick up all pet waste.

Because of potential fire danger, there is NO SMOKING on any of Port Ludlow's walks or trails.

All users of this Port Ludlow trail assume all responsibility for their actions, including their personal safety. Please use extreme caution at all road crossings - automobile traffic does not automatically stop for pedestrians!

See the notes on trails for additional comments, requests for courteous conduct, and other notes.

The above description is based on information provided by the Port Ludlow Village Council Trails Committee in a handout, and on personal experience. Copies of the original PLVC Trails Committee handouts (which are shorter and do not contain any editoralizing) are available at the Bay Club and the Beach Club.
